Mexican Handcrafts~Artesanias Mexicana

In old San Pedro we visited an Artesania Fare with many crafts from all over Mexico. We saw a little of everything from handmade guitars, clothing, woven baskets, Jewelry to handmade Sweets. On the whole the day was such a sensory experience! There were fountains gurgling, birds chirping & soft pan flute music. With the tiny paper flags called Picados fluttering everywhere it was a day which should have been painted rather than simply capturing with film. The oppressive heat seemed to lift for a time as we strolled the tented walkways of crafts & foods. We even stopped for fresh fruit Ice Cream. *The only fly in the ointment so to speak was the crowd gathered to watch a body being removed across from the Artesanias Fare... Oh well. I did stop to ponder the fact that I had never seen such a sight while having ice cream!! Life in Mexico~take the good with the bad!

True Artesanias in Mexico are handmade by master of their crafts & traditions handed down in the same families from one generation to the next.

Neat stuff, I love the big bowl, it looks like it's beaded with those tiny sead beads.

That one was wonderful. It was quite pricey! I love the details on the Huichol beadwork.

Beautiful photos. I love those little paper flags. How could anything not look festive with those flags flying?!

Patti t. I agree! I love the way they look. I would love to be able to make those little picados & have them look like the flags here do. However, I just cannot move past the paper snowflake...ha,ha!

New to this stuff. Ran across your page looking for a molcajete. I am from Texas and enjoy my trips to Piedras Negras. Worked at the hospital in Eagle Pass, made many friends on each side of the border. Love cooking as do you it seems. Great recipes. Any really good looking molcajetes there where you are?

stonefeather,
We do have a variety of molcajetes here however my favorite & most worn molcajete was purchased years ago in the Piedras Negras mercado closest to the bridge. You should be able to find something nice there at the end where the food products are sold. Good luck.

I just bought some of those "papel picado" flags to decorate for parties, when Shawna and I crossed over. Fun!

Carla, you need to post photos of the goodies you two bought. Would love to see them!
